St. Augustine Catholic School “Genius Hour” Program
Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school. This idea originally created in the corporate world, has found many educators, parents and students excited to seek out various topics to integrate into the school day through the Genius Hour method of program planning.
The same genius hour principles apply in the classroom as they do in the corporate environment. The teacher/parent volunteer provides a set amount of time for the students to work on their passion projects. Students are then challenged to choose a class being offered that they want to learn about. They spend a trimester in this non-graded class. The goal will be to provide engaging classes that allow the student(s) to be challenged and get excited in areas they might not have chosen otherwise. e.g. Improv, All Things STEM, Cartoon Creations, Knitting, Non-Fiction Book Club, Debate Club, Art in Motion, Math Challenge etc.
